Whisky Nosing and Tasting 2007

Duncan Taylor Evening

The first Nosing and Tasting Evening of 2007 took place on the 26th June when Mark Watt of Duncan Taylor gave an entertaining talk on some of their single casks whiskies, one of which was a 32yo Glen Grant. Although this was a small gathering everyone had a great time and the nosing competition was won by Margereta Vekselius from Sweden, who was correct with all five nosings, and was presented with her prize by Mark.

Glenfarclas Evening

During our second nosing of the season, Ian McWilliam, Marketing Executive of Glenfarclas gave a brief talk on the J & G Grant family who still own Glenfarclas Distillery. He then explained the unique methods used by the distillery before guiding the visitors through some of their single malt whiskies collection. The lucky winner of the nosing competition was Andac Hueber from Germany who was presented with a bottle of Glenfarclas 105 by Ian.

Glenfiddich Evening

On the 10th of July, the Glenfiddich Nosing & Tasting Evening saw a capacity crowd when the Whisky Museum welcomed Richard Cotton, manager of Glenfiddich, Balvenie & Kininvie Distilleries in Dufftown. He talked the group through the core range of William Grants whiskies, notably the 12yo, 15yo, 18yo, 21yo & the 30yo. The winner after a "nose-off" was Tom Groot from Holland, who was presented with a bottle of 15yo Solera Reserve and six Black Barrel tumblers by Richard.

Around Scotland Selection

Another capacity crowd of whisky lovers enjoyed the fourth Nosing & Tasting evening, presented by Sandy Kenneway. The new manager of The Whisky Shop introduced a selection from Around Scotland, including Bladnoch, GlenRothes, Old Pulteney, Springbank & Ardbeg. The dual winners were Rita Mommerency from Flanders in Belgium and Gordon Sheach from bonnie Scotland. Both won a bottle of Springbank which was presented by Sandy.

Duncan Taylor Evening

Mark Watt, Sales Manager of Duncan Taylor Co Ltd. gave his second Nosing & Tasting this year in front of 25 whisky enthusiasts. He talked about the unique single casks DTC uses in their DC2 collection. Everyone had a great time and after a 'nose-off' the nosing competition was won by (yet another lady) Mrs Ulla Lübcke from Sweden and was presented with a DC2 13yo Imperial by Mark.>

Glenmorangie Evening

Sandy Kenneway, manager of The Whisky Shop presented a selection of Glenmorangie whiskies, kindly donated by Glenmorangie plc. The whisky consisted of three wood finishing's and a 10yo and 15yo. An enjoyable evening was had by all and the winner of the nosing competition was Henri Pharizat from France, who was presented with a bottle of Glenmorangie and Cuff Links by Sandy.

Glenfarclas Evening

Robert Ransom, sales manager from Glenfarclas entertained 24 whisky lovers who were given a selection of 15yo, 21yo, 30yo and the classic 105 to sample. He gave a brief talk on the J & G Grant family who still own Glenfarclas Distillery. After the nosing the competition was won by Pauline Percy from England. Left, she is been presented with a bottle of 105 by Robert.

Gordon & Macphail Evening

Our 8th Nosing & Tasting was sponsored by the leading Whisky distributor Gordon & Macphail from Elgin. Their sale manager Mike Patterson offered a selection of Benromach which included a peaty malt and a new Organic Malt whisky. The winner of the competition was Anni Ljungqvist from Sweden here presented a bottle of Benromach by Mike.

Adelphi Distillers Evening

The Nosing & Tasting on 21st August was presented by Alex Bruce, Sales Manager for Adelphi Distillers, Independent Bottlers of Single Cask strength malts. The malts were from different regions of Scotland to give the audience an idea of the difference in tastes it can offer. The lucky winner of the nosing competition was Rafael Paredes from England seeing here being presented with a single cask bottle by Alex.

Balvenie Evening

The 10th nosing & tasting of the season was sponsored by Dufftown's local distillery Balvenie. Representative, Rob McPherson offered the 26 strong audience a selection of Balvenie's including the new Roasted Malt. The winner all the way from South Africa was Grant Tapson who beat the rest of the competitors in the nosing competition, here presented with a bottle of Balvenie.

Inverhouse Distillers Evening

On the 4th of September Gordon Bruce from Knockdhu distillery presented Inverhouse Distillers Co. His selection included Balblair, Old Pulteney, an Cnoc and Speyburn. Another lady,Shelly Chalmers, this time from Canada, won the competition and she received a special bottling from Gordon.

Diageo Evening

Our last nosing & tasting was attended by a capacity crowd of 33 whisky enthusiasts who were given a selection of Diageo which included the 2007 World No 1 malt Talisker 18yo. Georgie Crawford, previously the manager of the Dufftown whisky shop, and now Brand Manager of Talisker entertained the audience for 90 minutes. The winner of the nosing competition, Peder Strand from Sweden, who had all 5 malts correct received a bottle of Talisker 18yo from Georgie.
