Update..... We have started renovations on the new building, gutting out most of the front part. However, we have hit a bit of a snag with the back part as all the wall cladding has tested positive for Asbestos! Quotes have come in at around £6 -7,000 so until we have obtained some funding we have to delay the removal as it needs to be done professionally.
Meanwhile, we have been fortunate enough to be offered an architect and designers free of charge and the initial plans are looking very exciting.
With the help of the Mates of the Whisky Museum, donations and savings made over the years we have managed to purchase the building next to the present Whisky Museum (formerly Maureen's Fruit Shop). This will enable us to extend the present very small museum and include a local heritage element.
We feel this is quite an acheivement for a small charitable organisation but the hard work really starts now! The building needs major renovation work done so we need help physically and financially to see this new project come to fruitition.
If you can help in any way please contact us at mates@dufftown.co.uk or telephone: +44 (0) 1340 820507.
The Dufftown Whisky Museum provides a unique opportunity to discover the secrets of whisky making in days gone. It also gives a fascinating insight into the lives and times of whisky smugglers.
Many of the exhibits were provided by local distillers as well as HM Custom and Excise. These include illicit stills as well as other tools and equipment used for whisky manufacture in times gone
by.
