Highland Games are one of the highlights of the year. Like many other villages and towns in the Highlands, Dufftown is proud to host it's own Highland Games, a tradition dating back over 150 years.
Athletic games have a long history in Scotland. There is a tradition that Clan Chiefs held contests as long ago as the 11th century, to find their fastest runners and toughest fighting men. This formed the basis of The Games as we know them today.
The Dufftown Games are held on the last Saturday in July. There is a full programme of traditional events including:
- Spectacular massed pipe bands
- Highland dancing
- Throwing the hammer
- Tossing the caber
- Tug-o-war competition
- Ben Rinnes 5 tops hill race
- Overseas visitor's dream race
- Children's races
- And much more besides
There is also a Tea Tent and Licensed Beer Tent as well as various attractive side-stalls.
